ISTANBUL (Türkiye) - United States have been breaking records throughout the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2024, and their 111-60 victory over Canada in the Quarter-Finals was no different as they scored 66 points in the first half - the most ever by a team in the first 20 minutes of a final eight game.
USA led 66-27 at halftime and that broke their previous record of 65 points scored in the first half of their 133-52 victory over Korea in the 2016 Quarter-Finals. The Americans also tallied 63 points in the first half of their 126-74 win over Croatia in the 2018 Quarters.
The 66 points ranked third all-time for the most points scored in a first half.
The record is 76 points in USA's 132-64 win over Egypt in the 2010 group stage. The Americans also scored 75 points against Japan in their 122-38 Round of 16 triumph.
"I think we have a great group with a lot of chemistry." USA star forward Cameron Boozer responded to being asked about all the records being broken.
I think we will look at our team in five or 10 years from now and it will be one of the greatest teams for USA at the international level"
USA have spent the entire tournament breaking one record after the next - often their own marks. Over their first five games in Istanbul, White's team have set the new records for most points, assists, steals, two-point field goals, total field goals and efficiency.
"It's a testament to just how great this group is. But they don't go out looking to set the records, they just go out there and play and the records just happen to fall. That's the best part from a coaching standpoint," White said.
