ISTANBUL (Türkiye) - United States have represented teamwork to the utmost at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2024 and the six-time champs showed that again in the Round of 16 by breaking the all-time competition single game team assists mark for the third straight game with 49 assists in a 141-45 win over Philippines.
Six players had at least 4 assists - topped by Cayden Boozer with 9 dimes - and USA topped their previous mark of 43 with 5 minutes left in the game. The Americans registered 43 assists in the final group game against China a day after they dished out 40 assists versus Guinea. The record coming into the tournament was 36 by the Americans against Egypt in 2010.
The 141 points ranked second all-time in U17 World Cup history, behind just the Americans' 146 points from a day earlier.
This was the 10th time that the six-time U17 world champions have scored 120 or more points over the course of this event's history - and the third time in Istanbul as they tallied 124 in the second game in Group against Guinea.
The Americans in their game against Philippines also set a new record for efficiency with a value of 225, which topped the mark of 220 they set against China.
The records kept going as Sharman White's team made 62 field goals, to set a new benchmark and eclipse the 57 they made against China.
And 52 of those made field goals were two-pointers - yet another record.
