The rich tradition of USA dominating the U17 Women's Basketball World Cup continues for another two years after their victory in Leon.

LEON & IRAPUATO (Mexico) - USA signed off their participation at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2024 by shooting down Americas rivals Canada 84-64 in the showpiece Final to snap up a sixth title in seven editions.

The red-hot favorites measured up to pre-tournament expectations with a perfect unbeaten 7-0 campaign. while Canada at least had the consolation of departing Mexico having landed a first silver medal.

    Turning point

Canada were still hanging in and dreaming of making more history at the end of the third quarter. However, USA came out for the last 10 minutes on fire and a 14-2 run extinguished the hopes of Canada completely.

    Game heroes

Jerzy Robinson and McKenna Woliczko repeated their double-act from last year's FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship success by providing the devastating one-two punch for their team.

The former netted 25 points, as well as grabbing 7 rebounds, with Woliczko continuing her top form from the Semi-Finals to finish with 19 points and 9 boards.

    Stats don't lie

The size, strength and extra rotations in the paint was a big difference in the contest. USA out-rebounded Canada 58-41, as well as dropping a huge 29 second chance points.

    Bottom Line

It was a familiar story for USA who as expected, proved to be too deep, too talented and ultimately too good for everyone else. They were in a high gear from day one and with impressive focus, they never relented for the duration of the competition as they stamped their authority and quality on the tournament.

Canada can reflect on their best ever FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup with pride. A historic silver medal, superb 6-1 record won and dynamic style of play at both ends of the court won them many fans.

The emergence of Agot Makeer and Savannah Swords was cause for particular satisfaction, with both looking like potential senior team members of the future.
