Aina Cargol had a super start on Day 1

It was a day to remember for Spanish guard Aina Cargol on her first outing in Leon.

LEON & IRAPUATO (Mexico) - It proved to be a dream FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2024 debut for Aina Cargol after she capped a winning first appearance by becoming a record-breaker for her country.

The rising star became the first baller from Spain to hand out 9 assists in a game since the prestigious competition was launched back in 2010.

There have been a string of memorable Spanish guards down the years, including the highly-rated Iyana Martin Carrion who handed out eight dimes to her teammates on two separate occasions at the previous 2022 edition.

But it was Cargol who broke new territory as she excelled in a one-sided 99-29 success against Argentina. She accumulated a fantastic performance efficiency score of 33 after adding to her 9 assists with 22 points and 6 rebounds.

Who will be the first Spanish player to hit double-digits at the U17 Worlds when it comes to passing the rock?
